Frequency conversion spans audio engineering, radio communications, computing, music, mechanical engineering and medicine. Hertz is the SI unit of frequency, with kilohertz used for AM radio and audio, megahertz for FM radio and processors, and gigahertz for WiFi and modern CPUs. RPM measures rotational speed in motors and engines, while BPM tracks heart rate and music tempo. Our converter covers all 30 unit pairs with real-world comparisons.

Frequently asked questions

The most common frequency conversion is hertz to kilohertz. One kilohertz equals 1000 hertz. This conversion is used in audio engineering, radio tuning and electronics where frequencies are often expressed in kHz for readability.

To convert megahertz to gigahertz, divide by 1000. For example, 2400 MHz equals 2.4 GHz (the standard WiFi frequency). A 3.5 GHz processor clock speed equals 3500 MHz.

RPM (revolutions per minute) and BPM (beats per minute) have the same mathematical conversion factor - both measure events per minute. RPM is used for mechanical rotation (motors, engines, hard drives) while BPM is used for heart rate and music tempo. 1 rpm = 1 bpm numerically.

To convert rpm to hertz, divide by 60. For example, 3600 rpm equals 60 Hz (the frequency of US mains electricity corresponds to a motor spinning at 3600 rpm). A car engine at 3000 rpm rotates at 50 Hz.

Middle C (C4) has a frequency of approximately 261.63 Hz. The standard tuning reference A4 is 440 Hz. Musical notes follow an exponential scale where each octave doubles the frequency, so C5 is approximately 523.25 Hz.
