Mbps (megabits per second) measures speed in bits - how ISPs advertise. MB/s (megabytes per second) measures speed in bytes - what your browser shows during downloads. Since 1 byte = 8 bits, divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s. So 100 Mbps = 12.5 MB/s.

100 Mbps equals 12.5 megabytes per second. At that speed, a 1 GB file downloads in about 80 seconds, a 4K movie (15 GB) takes about 20 minutes, and a 50 GB game takes about 67 minutes. Real-world speeds are usually 60-80% of the advertised rate.

Netflix recommends at least 15 Mbps for 4K Ultra HD streaming. For reliable playback with headroom, 25 Mbps is ideal. HD (1080p) needs about 5 Mbps, and SD needs 3 Mbps. Multiple simultaneous streams multiply these requirements.

Multiply Gbps by 1000 to get Mbps. So 1 Gbps = 1000 Mbps, 2 Gbps = 2000 Mbps, and 5 Gbps = 5000 Mbps. A 1 Gbps fiber plan downloads at about 125 MB/s - fast enough to download a 50 GB game in under 7 minutes.

ISPs advertise in Mbps (bits) but downloads show MB/s (bytes) - divide by 8 for the true comparison. Beyond that, network congestion, Wi-Fi overhead, distance from the router and server-side limits all reduce real speed to 60-80% of the plan. Use a wired Ethernet connection for maximum throughput.
