Gas mark 4 equals approximately 180°C (350°F). This is a moderate oven temperature used for baking cakes, biscuits and casseroles.

Gas marks increase by about 14°C (25°F) per step. Gas mark 1 is 140°C (275°F), and each increment adds roughly 14°C. Gas mark 9 is the highest at about 246°C (475°F).
