There are 1000 bytes in a kilobyte (KB) using the decimal SI standard. This is the standard used by hard drive manufacturers and most operating systems. Note that some older systems use 1024 bytes per kilobyte (kibibyte), which is why a 1 TB drive may show less space than expected.
