Runners and walkers constantly need to convert between metric and imperial distances and paces. Whether you are training for a 5K and want to know your pace in minutes per mile, tracking 10,000 steps and wondering how far that is, or predicting your marathon time from a half marathon result - these calculators bridge the gap between km and miles for fitness tracking.
Frequently asked questions
Multiply your min/km pace by 1.60934. For example, 5:00 min/km equals approximately 8:03 min/mile. A faster pace per km will always look slower per mile because a mile is longer.
With an average stride length of 75 cm, 10,000 steps equals approximately 7.5 km or 4.66 miles. Actual distance varies by height and stride length.
A 5K in 30-35 minutes is a solid beginner goal, which works out to 6:00-7:00 min/km or 9:39-11:16 min/mile. Most beginners start closer to 35-40 minutes.
The Riegel formula multiplies your half marathon time by 2.0929 (not simply doubling). A 2:00:00 half predicts approximately a 4:11:08 marathon. The extra time accounts for fatigue over the longer distance.
At an average walking speed of 5 km/h, it takes about 60 minutes to walk 5 km. Brisk walkers at 6.5 km/h can do it in about 46 minutes, while slower walkers at 4 km/h take about 75 minutes.
