Fuel & Mileage Calculator
Convert between MPG and L/100km, calculate trip fuel costs and compare vehicle fuel economy instantly.
Results
Fuel economy is measured differently around the world - the US uses miles per gallon (MPG) while most other countries use liters per 100 kilometers (L/100km). When shopping for a car, planning a road trip or comparing fuel costs between vehicles, converting between these units is essential. Our calculators handle the inverse relationship between MPG and L/100km so you get accurate results without the confusing math.
Frequently asked questions
Divide 235.215 by the MPG value. For example, 30 MPG = 235.215 / 30 = 7.84 L/100km. The relationship is inverse - higher MPG means lower L/100km.
Under 6 L/100km is considered excellent, 6-8 is good, 8-12 is average and over 12 is poor. For reference, most compact cars get 5-7 L/100km while SUVs use 8-12 L/100km.
Divide trip distance by your fuel economy to get fuel needed, then multiply by fuel price. For 500 miles at 30 MPG with gas at $3.50/gallon: 500/30 = 16.67 gallons × $3.50 = $58.33.
25 MPG equals approximately 9.41 L/100km. Divide 235.215 by 25 to get the result. This is typical fuel economy for a midsize sedan.
L/100km is more intuitive for comparing fuel costs because the relationship is linear - double the L/100km means double the fuel cost. MPG has a diminishing returns effect where improving from 15 to 20 MPG saves more fuel than improving from 30 to 35 MPG.
