Trying to decide between a 256 GB and 512 GB phone, wondering how many hours of 4K GoPro footage fit on a 128 GB SD card, or checking how many AAA games your 1 TB SSD can hold? These calculators turn storage capacity into real-world numbers you can plan around. The actual-vs-advertised tool explains why your new drive shows less space than expected - it is not a defect, just a difference between how manufacturers and operating systems count bytes.

Frequently asked questions

At a typical HEIC photo size of 2 MB, 256 GB holds about 128,000 photos - roughly 35 years at 10 photos per day. JPEG photos at 3 MB each fit about 85,000 and RAW photos at 25 MB each fit about 10,000.

At 30 fps, 4K video uses about 22 GB per hour, so a 1 TB card holds roughly 45 hours. At 60 fps the bitrate doubles, cutting storage to about 23 hours. Shooting in 8K at 80 GB/hr gives only about 12 hours on 1 TB.

After the OS reserves about 150 GB, you have roughly 667 GB usable. AAA PS5 games average 50-75 GB, so you can fit about 9-13 games. Some titles like Call of Duty can exceed 100 GB, significantly reducing the count.

Drive manufacturers measure 1 TB as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes (decimal), but Windows displays in gibibytes where 1 GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes (binary). Dividing gives 931 GiB. After filesystem formatting overhead, you typically see 920-930 GB usable.

At MP3 320 kbps quality (about 8.4 MB per 3.5-minute song), 64 GB holds roughly 7,600 songs or about 440 hours of music. At MP3 128 kbps (3.5 MB per song), it holds about 18,200 songs or over 1,000 hours.
