Frequently asked questions

At 100 Mbps you can download 1 GB in about 80 seconds. That is because 1 GB equals 8,000 megabits, divided by 100 megabits per second gives 80 seconds.

Internet speeds are advertised in megabits per second (Mbps) while downloads often show megabytes per second (MB/s). Divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s. Network overhead, server limits and congestion also reduce real-world speeds.

At 25 Mbps it takes about 4.4 hours, at 100 Mbps about 67 minutes, at 500 Mbps about 13 minutes and at 1 Gbps about 6.7 minutes. Faster connections make a huge difference for large game downloads.

Mbps is megabits per second and MB/s is megabytes per second. There are 8 bits in a byte, so 100 Mbps equals 12.5 MB/s. Internet providers use Mbps while download managers often show MB/s.

A 4K movie file is roughly 20-100 GB. At 100 Mbps a 50 GB movie takes about 67 minutes. At 300 Mbps it drops to about 22 minutes. Streaming services compress heavily so buffering needs less bandwidth than a raw download.
