Frequently asked questions
At standard tier rates: AWS S3 costs about $23.55/month, Google Cloud $20.48/month, Azure $18.43/month and Backblaze B2 just $6.14/month. Archive tiers are much cheaper - AWS Glacier is about $4.10/month for 1 TB.
Backblaze B2 is the cheapest at $0.006/GB/month for all tiers. For major providers, Azure Blob Hot ($0.018/GB) edges out Google ($0.020/GB) and AWS S3 ($0.023/GB) at standard tier pricing.
Infrequent access tiers cost less per GB but charge higher retrieval fees. They are ideal for data accessed less than once a month, like old backups, logs and compliance archives. Savings are typically 30-50% over standard tier.
Archive tiers are cheapest for data you rarely access - typically once a year or less. Retrieval can take minutes to hours. Use archive for legal holds, historical records and disaster recovery copies where fast access is not critical.
Yes. Most providers charge for API requests ($0.005 per 1,000 operations), data egress ($0.09/GB for download) and retrieval from cold tiers. Backblaze offers free egress to Cloudflare partners, making it uniquely affordable for serving data.
